How to Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication

Overview

To protect your account, multi-factor authentication (MFA) is required for all users. MFA adds an extra layer of security by verifying your identity when logging in.

You can choose one of two MFA methods:

You'll be prompted to verify your identity:

  • Every 30 days
  • After updating your email address
  • If a security issue is detected

An admin can reset the MFA authentication method for a user.


Option 1: Email Authentication

First time set up

  1. Log in to Lister
  2. Select “Use Email”

    Note:     If Email Verification" is greyed out and can't be selected, please enter an email address on the account first

  3. Check your email inbox for a message from no-reply@uprightlabs.com or no-reply@solutionsitw.com containing your verification code
  4. Copy the verification code
  5. Return to the login screen and enter the code into the verification field

  6. Once entered, you’ll be logged in and MFA will be enabled for your account

💡Tip: The verification code email should arrive within a few minutes. If you don't see it, check your spam or junk folder. 

Future Logins

  1. Log in to Lister
  2. When MFA is triggered, a verification code email is automatically sent to you
  3. Check your inbox for the code from Upright Labs
  4. Enter the code into the verification field on the login screen
  5. Once entered, you'll be logged in


Option 2: Authenticator Application

First time set up

  1. Log in to Lister
  2. Select “Use Authenticator App”

  3. A QR code will appear on your screen:

  4. Open your authenticator app and choose Scan a QR code
  5. Point your phone's camera at the QR code to link your account
  6. Enter the 6-digit code displayed in your authenticator app into the verification field
  7. Once entered, you'll be logged in and MFA will be enabled

Future Logins

  1. Log in to Lister
  2. When MFA is triggered, open your authenticator app

  3. Retrieve the current 6-digit verification code for Lister

  4. Enter the code into the verification field on the login screen

  5. Once entered, you’ll be logged in

💡 Tip: Codes refresh every 30 seconds, so be sure to use the most recent one.

Resetting the Authentication Method

If you need to reset the authentication method for a teammate for any reason, admins can reset a user's MFA under Team > Teammates.

Click "Edit" next to the teammate that needs to reset their MFA method, then:

  1. Click the orange "Reset MFA" button
  2. Click the green "Reset MFA" button to confirm
  3. Click the blue "Update teammate" button

Resetting MFA will require the user to set up MFA again on their next login.
 

💡 Tip: In addition to the admin role, a custom role with the permission to "manage teammates and roles" will also have access to "Reset MFA" for teammates.
