Lister Connect is a background app that runs on your Mac and is required for printing via Lister. If you've not installed Lister Connect on your Mac, please follow this guide.
If you are unable to print or import weights from scales using Lister, first check to see if the printer icon in the top right corner of Lister is red or green.
-
If the printer icon is red, it means the connection between Lister and the Lister Connect app is not turned on. Continue to the "Unable to establish connection with printer” section to diagnose and fix
-
If the printer icon is green, it means the connection is working. Click here for more troubleshooting steps if you are unable to print labels or import weights from scales to Lister
If the printer icon at the top right corner of Lister is red and you see a pop-up warning that says “Unable to establish connection with printer" when trying to print, Lister cannot communicate with Lister Connect.
Here's how to resolve it:
Step 1: Ensure Lister Connect is running on your Mac
-
Open the Spotlight search tool (⌘ command + space) and search for "Lister Connect"
-
Select “Lister Connect” from the Applications section in the search results
-
A blue Upright Labs icon in the top right status menu of your desktop indicates Lister Connect is actively running
Note: If you don’t see Lister Connect in your spotlight search results, follow the link below for our guide to installing Lister Connect on Mac:
From here, verify that Lister Connect is not blocked from passing information to Lister by following the steps below:
-
Click the Lister Connect icon in the top right status menu of your desktop
-
Mouse over “Advanced” in the dropdown menu
-
Click “Site Manager” in the spillover menu
-
Click the “Blocked” tab and verify Upright Labs is NOT being blocked
Step 3: Reconnect Lister Connect in Lister
-
Login to Lister and click the red printer icon in the top-right corner
-
Click the blue “Reconnect” button in the dropdown menu
If the blue “Reconnect” button does not work and the printer icon does not turn green, follow the steps below:
-
Open a new browser tab and navigate to https://localhost:8181/
-
Click "Advanced"
-
Click “Proceed to localhost (unsafe)"
-
If you see a page that says “HTTP Error: 500” this means the certificate has been approved
From here, return to Lister and repeat the following steps:
-
Log in to Lister and click the red printer icon in the top-right corner
-
Click the blue “Reconnect” button in the dropdown menu.
If you are still unable to connect, move on to the next section, Unable to Print Labels: Not Blocked, Chrome Permissions Issue.
Unable to Print Labels: Not Blocked, Chrome Permissions Issue
If you notice that this issue occurs with one teammate/Google Chrome profile while others are running without issue, update the permissions in the affected Chrome profile by following these instructions:
-
While logged into the affected profile, go to the Google Chrome Settings by clicking the three dots in the upper right of the browser
-
Click on "Settings"

- Click on "Privacy and Security"
- Click on "Site Settings"

- Click on app.uprightlabs.com in the "Recent activity" section. If you don't see it there, search for "Upright" in the search box

- Scroll to the bottom of the page and next to "Apps on device" change that to "Allow"

This setting can get inadvertently declined when Google prompts to accept or decline "Apps on device" for sites that use this setting. Changing this permission should resolve this so that Lister Connect is connected again.
Unable to Print Labels: Not Blocked, Edge Permissions Issue
-
While logged into the affected profile, click the lock icon in the Microsoft Edge browser to the right of the URL https://app.uprightlabs.com/
- To the right of "Apps on device" select "Allowed"

If the printer icon at the top right corner of Lister is green and you see a red pop-up warning that says “No current printer setup" when trying to print, this means Lister Connect is working, but Lister does not know where to send the print job.
-
Click on the green printer icon in the top-right corner of Lister
-
Select a printer from the dropdown list
-
If your printer isn’t visible in the dropdown list, try the following:
-
Double check the printer is both powered on and connected to your Mac via USB
-
Click the “Refresh” icon to find any newly connected printers
-
If the above steps don’t help, verify Upright Labs is not blocked from Lister Connect by following the steps linked here.
If USB scales fail to import weights into the New Shipment or Product Page, verify the scale is powered on and connected to your Mac via a USB cable. From there, verify Lister Connect is running and follow the steps below:
-
Click the green printer icon in the top right corner of Lister
-
Ensure your scales are selected in the scale dropdown menu
-
If your scales aren’t visible in the dropdown list, try the following:
-
Double check the scale is both powered on and connected to your Mac via USB
-
Click the “Refresh” icon to find any newly connected scales
-
